Assistant Professor
Kelsey Prissel

Research Areas

Prof. Kelsey Prissel’s research focuses on planetary differentiation and volcanism. Her research group conducts high-temperature laboratory experiments and geochemical analyses of igneous rocks to develop a crust-to-core perspective of planetary bodies.

Research efforts include:

  • High-temperature ± high-pressure experiments (1-atm gas-mixing furnace, piston cylinder, multi-anvil)
  • Isotopic analysis of experimental samples
  • Geochemical modeling (elemental diffusion, isotopic fractionation, magma crystallization)
  • Petrographic characterization of natural samples (lunar, meteorite, terrestrial)
  • Synthesis and analysis of "ground truth" materials for remote sensing applications
  • Analog mission and field campaigns for planetary surface exploration
