Assistant Professor in Atmospheric Science (Two Positions)

In support of its significant existing strengths in climate and extreme weather, the Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences (EAPS), within the College of Science, Purdue University, invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in the 2015-16 academic year.  Through these hires, EAPS seeks to further enhance its areas of expertise in global­to­regional weather and climate interactions, with an emphasis on understanding and quantifying the predictability of hazardous weather phenomena, such as tornadoes, mesoscale convective systems, and winter storms. Climate change effects on these systems and other phenomena such as regional drought and floods are also relevant in this search. Research and teaching expertise is particularly desired in, but not limited to, the following areas: observations/remote sensing of extreme weather events; quantification and communication of uncertainty in weather and seasonal predictions; representation of physical and dynamical processes in numerical models.

All candidates must have completed their PhD in Atmospheric Science or related field at the time of employment. The appointees are expected to develop and maintain a vigorous, externally funded, internationally recognized research program, teach undergraduate/graduate level courses, and mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
