Research Areas

In our group, we use radiogenic isotopes to study the physical and chemical processes shaping the geological history of Earth. Some of the scientific problems our work addresses include:

  • how volcanoes form and evolve
  • how granites are emplaced and differentiate over time
  • the timing of mass extinctions and other biotic events in the past

We also conduct basic experimental research on the systematics of inorganic mass spectrometry and isotopic measements, which have broad significance across both Earth and planetary science disciplines. To learn more about the current and recent research efforts of RIGL check out our Research page.
