Our Mission
RISE will serve as a central hub for projects at the boundary of science and engineering
- RISE will partner with existing space-related centers at Purdue to help address their science questions and needs
- Long term goal: Build physical and staffing infrastructure to fully execute missions through their life cycle, from concept to development to operations and analysis.
- RISE will help Purdue produce students with practical experience at the boundary of science and engineering through research experiences, internships, and degree/certificate programs
Potential areas of focus: Spacecraft and payload design, remote sensing technology, in situ resource utilization and regolith applications, integrating robotics and AI systems into scientific and human exploration, identifying and mitigating hazards, space agriculture and bioastronautics, data infrastructure.
RISE Implementation
- RISE will identify and build working groups in impactful areas of focus for collaborations
- RISE will support development of major proposals, including NASA blocks grants and NSF centers
- RISE will deeply incorporate industry partners through an industry advisory board and an industry consortium
- RISE will help build relationships and expertise via regular seminars and workshops and the annual Advancing Space Exploration Symposium
- With COS, consortium, and donor funding, we aim to support seed grants, scholarships, and internships to help enable new research directions
RISE will establish internal collaborations, robust facilities, and external partnerships to enable rapid response to federal and industry funding opportunities
RISE will enable collaborations across campus to develop unique solutions to key knowledge gaps in space exploration
- RISE objectives and themes cross-cut all colleges at Purdue
- RISE will also help bring science into other space-related centers - supporting centers so far: RETHi, IPAI, CISM, CERIAS
