AIRES selected to go to the Moon

July 2025: Our instrument proposal to put a camera and spectrometer [Artemis Infrared Reflectance and Emission Spectrometer (AIRES)] on the Artemis Lunar Terrain Vehicle (LTV) was selected! The LTV is scheduled to go to the Moon prior to Artemis V. It's an exciting time for lunar science and we are thrilled to contribute to Purdue's legacy and the next giant leaps in lunar exploration. First compression on the multi-anvil press

June 2025: Kelsey manages the 1000-ton Rockland multi-anvil press housed in the Department of Chemistry. The instrument was originally delivered in 2016, and Kelsey has been working with undergraduate student Stephen Anderson to get the machine up and running this summer. This month markes the first compression of the multi-anvil (affectionately nicknamed Marjorie, or Marge).

Lab construction project kick-off

February 2025: We designed our future laboratory spaces in collaboration with the Architecture and Design company Synthesis Incorporated based in Indianapolis. As of this month, construction company Kettlehut Construction, Inc. has officially begun work on the project. We got to visit during the initial demo and see the very beginning of our spaces transformation into petrology labs!
